Which contingency funding for the unemployed ?

Most unemployed receiving a daily compensation from the national unemployment fund (AC) exceeding Sfrs. 92.60 are to pay contributions for the second category insurance: 5,28 % of the “coordinated daily wages” (the share of the daily compensation ranging between Sfrs. 92.60 and Sfrs. 277.90). Equal for men and women, this contribution is paid by the AC for one half and by unemployed person for the other half. It is paid to an “unemployed funding institution” which is an additional institution. In French-speaking Switzerland, it is located in Lausanne.

In case of a halt of AC benefits, as a legal sanction, the contribution is fully paid by the AC itself.

Remember: this contribution covers you in case of disability of death only, according to the minimum calculated in the Swiss federal Act on 2nd category insurance (LPP); it does not cover your retirement.

As the unemployed person leaves his latest employer, he or she is usually entitled to a “dismissal fee”. He or she must transfer this amount to a special fund at an insurance company or to a bank account. This fund (or this account) is a good way for the unemployed person to keep up his insurance coverage: he or she can plan and prepare personal insurance benefits in the event of death or disability, by paying the contributions either with this special fund or with other financial resources.
