When I quit my job, can I cash my 2nd category savings ?

A policy-holder leaving a contingency funding institution is usually entitled to an “exit compensation”.
Payment in cash can be required in three cases:

1. If the policy-holder leaves Switzerland for good.
2. If he is becoming self-employed and is not subject to the compulsory 2nd category insurance.
3. If the amount of the “exit compensation” is extremely low, that is lower than the annual amount of the personal contributions to the contingency fund of the policy-holder.

Since January 1st , 1995,  a married woman who stops working is no more entitled to refunding.

Another innovation: in order to protect the family, the law does only authorize the payment  in cash with the written assent of both spouses.

The situation is not exactly clear in many people’s minds about the situation of those being about to leave Switzerland for good. This is due to the fact that Switzerland should have had to modify its legislation concerning this case if it had joined the EU. Since it did not join, the applicable regulations on this matter remained the same.

Therefore, people leaving Switzerland for good can at any time require a refunding in cash of his “exit compensation”.
